Roots and Wings visited Morikami Park Elementary School to present their Above and Beyond Awards to the teachers and staff that had been nominated by their peers to receive the awards. We were greeted at the Office by Special Principal Keke Peterson and Assistant Principal Dylan Rudnick who also attended our presentations. We presented Morikami Park with a plaque of last year’s winners that will be placed in the main office for all to see. We are so happy to be able to honor teachers and staff whose dedication make extraordinary contributions to the creation of a positive, supportive school environment
Cathy Rhein is so much more than a media clerk. She always steps up to help. She always is willing to go above and beyond, even when it takes her past her duty day. She covers classes for teachers to attend meetings, and helps in the front office, organizing spirit shirt orders for Mrs. Davis. Cathy assists Mrs. Mercier with Showcase of the Schools and other activities throughout the school year. If you were to look up the words commitment and dedication in the dictionary, you should find a picture of Cathy Rhein. For all she does for Morikami, we are pleased to present her with an Above and Beyond Award.
Melissa Gonzalez is being honored with an Above and Beyond Award for her ongoing assistance to the second grade team! She is always planning and gathering materials to make inquiry with matter fun for the children. Melissa has very good ideas and is always sharing with her team. Morikami is please to honor her with this award.
Debra Bynon uses her own time to help her students achieve their personal best. While not everyone might be aware, she works with her math students in the mornings before school as well as during fine arts time. She is an important member of the fifth grade team. During the time that we were off due to Hurricane Irma, she went “above and beyond” and picked up supplies that we needed for our upcoming provocation for our Unit of Inquiry. She researched a new creative project and even collected enough water bottles for our whole team. She is always willing to help her team members and for that reason and many more, she is very deserving of receiving this Above and Beyond Award.
Amy Brofsky is always the first to volunteer her time. She often takes on extra tasks such as scheduling Morikami’s Standards Mastery Assessments, creating scales, and even coming up with Math portfolio pieces. She volunteered to do three rounds of after school tutorial. She is always on the lookout for materials for units (Reading, Math POI) and willingly shares what she has with the “team”, She attends many after school events and takes it all in stride, as she manages being a working mom. This year she has welcomed a service dog in her class. As one can easily see, Amy is very deserving of an Above and Beyond Award.
Heather Broder continuously goes “above and beyond” not only for her students but for all the students at Morikami. She takes on extra tasks that help the first grade team, from answering questions, to doing something, to giving advice and guidance whenever asked, no matter the time. For the on-going support and assistance to her students, to the running of the student council, and for all she does for the first grade team, she is very deserving of an Above and Beyond Award.
Kim DiLorenzo is a very knowledgeable educator who is always willing to help any teacher or student. Often times that support is research based. She often revises her schedule to accommodate the students’ needs within the general classroom. Her insight and wisdom has been valuable to Kindergarten. She takes students during lunch and planning time daily. She also shares her knowledge during faculty meetings and other grade level PLCs. Kim is very deserving of an Above and Beyond Award.
